Boil Water Advisory

June 1, 2026 @ 12 PM

The boil water advisory has been lifted.

Water samples taken at multiple times and from multiple locations following Friday’s water main repair have been tested and cleared. Residents may now use water without boiling it for drinking, cooking, food preparation, making ice, dishwashing, oral hygiene, and all the previously noted non-restricted uses (e.g., bathing).

The water tower has also been successfully removed from the water system and is now being drained so the necessary repair work can be completed on the expansion joint. While the tower is out of service, it will also be inspected to help prevent future disruptions and avoid the need for another separate inspection outage during its regular inspection schedule.

We will continue to provide updates on the water tower repair over the next few days. After the repair is completed, the tower will need to be refilled and the water tested before it is brought back into the water system.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout this process.

May 31, 2026 @ 4:30 PM

Based on consultation with the DNR, municipal engineers, and Village staff, the boil water notice will remain in effect out of an abundance of caution until after the scheduled water tower repairs are completed.

This means the Village will remain under a boil water notice until at least late afternoon on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The water tower must be taken out of service for repair due to a failing expansion joint that is causing the tower to leak. This repair is necessary to prevent the potential for a catastrophic structural failure of the water tower.

In order to take the water tower out of service, the wells must be turned on to maintain water service. This creates additional pressure within the water system. To help relieve that pressure, pressure relief valves are being added at multiple points throughout the system.

Even with pressure relief measures in place on Friday, the pressure was still too great and caused a water main failure, which resulted in the entire system losing pressurization. To restore water service while the broken water main was being repaired, the water tower was placed back into service.

This process must be repeated Monday morning so the water tower can again be removed from the system and the necessary repairs can be completed. Additional staff and equipment are being brought in to help ensure this process goes more smoothly than it did on Friday.

However, given the risk that another issue could occur during this process, it is in the best interest of public safety to remain under the boil water advisory until we are certain the tower has been successfully isolated from the system and the repairs are complete.

Please continue to follow the boil water guidance. Any water used for drinking, preparing food or beverages, or oral hygiene should be brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute before use.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through this necessary repair process.

A Boil Water Advisory is being issued due to a main break and loss of pressure in the water system on May 29, 2026. as a result of removing the water tower from service to perform repairs on the expansion joint. The water main break is located near the intersection of Mill & South Streets. We are bringing the water tower back online to restore service to other areas in the Village, the water tower will need to be brought offline again to complete the repairs necessary at a later date & time.

Once water is restored, please boil your water for 1 minute before using it to cook, drink, or brush teeth. In most situations water is safe to use if not ingested for things such as washing clothes and showering.

This notice will likely be in effect for at least 48 hours, however it may be longer once the system loses pressure there is the potential for backflow into the system, the boil water notice will remain in effect until water testing can be completed to ensure the safety of drinking water.

The Village will notify residents when the advisory is lifted, please watch this page for updates.

For any questions, please contact the Village offices at 608-543-3113.
