The Village of Argyle Street Department is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a full-time Operator. If you are comfortable working with heavy machinery, committed to public service, and ready for a physically demanding role, we encourage you to apply!
This essential position is responsible for maintaining and improving the Village’s streets, infrastructure, and public grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate all street department equipment, including backhoes and plow trucks.
- Street Maintenance: Perform snow plowing, sanding/salting, patching blacktop, and repairing streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks (concrete work).
- Groundskeeping: Conduct tree trimming, brush removal, grass mowing, and weed cutting.
- Equipment Care: Complete general maintenance and routine repairs on Village-owned machinery and vehicles.
- Cross-Department Support: Participate in Sewer & Water Department cross-training for weekend rotation coverage.
- Public Interaction: Maintain strong communication skills and work effectively with the public and in a team setting.
Required Qualifications & Conditions
- CDL: Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes endorsement, or have the ability to obtain it within the 6-month probationary period.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 100 lbs and be willing to submit to a required physical, medical, and drug testing.
- Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including required nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation.
- Residency: The successful candidate must establish and maintain residency within 20 minutes of the Village of Argyle.
